Dear Editor:
I have received many phone calls concerning the Gilroy 7th Annual Memorial Day activities on Monday, May 31. I wish to provide the answers to their many questions for those who have not yet called.
The Remembrance Ceremony at St. Mary’s Cemetery starts at 9 a.m. on May 31. The Remembrance Ceremony will last for about one hour.
The Gilroy Memorial Day Parade staging area opens at 8 a.m. and we want everyone who is participating in the parade to be at the staging area by 10 a.m. It is not too late to put in an application for the parade. We would like to have all the applications submitted by May 7, so we can accommodate everyone and make sure we stage everyone in the right location. The last few years we have had about 20 last-minute entries, entering on the day of the parade, and it does make for a very busy morning for the organization team. You can submit on-line at www.GilroyParade.com or there are applications at the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce.
The parade route is on 10th Street from Monterey Highway to Orchard Street. We will be closing 10th Street at about 9:30 and it will remain closed until the end of the parade.
Family Fun Day at the Park at Christmas Hill Park starts at the end of the parade or about 1 p.m. and will be open until 4 p.m. All the days‚ events are FREE including Kids Games with prizes (always fun to watch), two bounce houses, slide, rock climbing wall, face painting, clowns, music, balloon artists, Cal Star Air Ambulance, car show and more. The Gilroy Exchange Club is selling lunches at the park as a fund raiser. Many local organizations will also be having booths at the park to tell everyone about their organizations. If your organization would like to participate, we have a few more spaces available. The Gilroy Rotary Club will have their bone marrow screening tent set up again. Last year, more then 100 people registered.
If you have any questions or wish to participate in the parade or set up a booth at the park, please call me at 408-710-6090 or send me an email at Gi**********@***oo.com
