Dear Editor,

The Housing Trust of Santa Clara County congratulates our partners at South County Housing and EHC Lifebuilders on securing final funding for the Sobrato Transitional Center in Gilroy. This new service center will be a shining point of pride for the generous Gilroyans who worked so hard to create it, and who were noted and thanked in Dina Campeau’s column on Oct. 7, and in The Dispatch editorial published on Oct. 12.

It is important to note, however, that funding support for the Sobrato Center has come from both within and without the local community. The Housing Trust is proud of the $500,000 we have invested into the center – part of the $1.2 million we’ve invested into the Sobrato Family Center and Transitional Apartments developments as a whole, and more than $2 million into affordable housing developments in Gilroy and Morgan Hill, all voluntarily funded by employers, governments and citizens throughout the county.

As America’s first public-private housing trust to rely on local, voluntary contributions, we are pleased to work with every community in Santa Clara County to provide support for affordable housing options that make life more affordable for all of our citizens. The Sobrato Transitional Center is a great example of what we can all do when we work together towards the common good.

Taylor Dial, executive director,
