HONORS:Â Spencer Smith:Â Air Force Airman Spencer W. Smith graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Smith is the son of Frank Smith of Morgan Hill and a 2012 graduate of Prospect High School in San Jose.
Locals make dean’s list at APU
Several local residents made the academic dean’s list at Azusa Pacific University. These students are honored for a spring 2014 grade-point average of 3.5 or better.

Scott Cameron
Scott T. Cameron, an Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet at Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, has graduated from the Leader Development and Assessment Course at Fort Knox, Ky.
The 29 days of training provide the best possible professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of military life, administration and logistical support. Although continued military training and leadership development is included in the curriculum, the primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet’s officer potential by exercising the cadet’s intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and physical stamina. The cadet command assesses each cadet’s performance and progress in officer traits, qualities and professionalism while attending the course.
Cadets usually attend LDAC between their junior and senior years of college, and they must complete the course to qualify for commissioning. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program and graduation from college, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard or Army Reserve.
Cameron is the son of Katie Cameron of Morgan Hill and a 2011 graduate of Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville.
Nathanael Wrye
Nathanael Wrye, an Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet at California Polytechnic State University has completed a Cadet Troop Leader Training assignment.
The training allows Army ROTC cadets to experience leadership in Army units throughout the Continental United States as well as overseas, where they serve in lieutenant-level positions for three or four weeks. The cadets work with and under assigned unit mentors in situations where their potential as platoon leaders can be evaluated.
Wrye completed CTLT with an internship at the Training Brains Operations Center, Fort Eustis, Va. Prior to this training, he graduated from the Leader Development and Assessment Course at Fort Knox, Ky.
He is the son of Timothy Wrye of Gilroy and a 2011 graduate of Ann Sobrato High School.
Dominic Woodson
Dominic Woodson, of Gilroy, received his white coat at the White Coat Ceremony at Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) in Harrogate, Tenn. Sept. 27.
Woodson is a first-year osteopathic medical student at LMU-DCOM. Prior to enrolling at LMU-DCOM, Woodson attended UCLA.
The White Coat Ceremony is a special ceremony designed to mark a student’s entrance into medical school. The DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine is located on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn.
