Though the polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, results were slow to come in as of 11 p.m., but early vote counts show tight races for the Gilroy Unified School District Board and Gilroy City Council.Â
Measure F, the half-percent general purpose sales tax, was trailing by a slim margin. Opponents secured 56.9 percent of the vote, while supporters held 43.1 percent with only 4 of 26 precincts reporting. As of press time Tuesday, 3,069 votes had been counted.
In the race for four open seats on the GUSD Board of Education, Linda Piceno was in the lead with 18.6 percent of the vote with 15 of 41 precincts reporting. Jaime Rosso was close behind with 18.1 percent, Patricia Midtgaard with 17.7 percent and Heather Bass with 16.8 percent. Tom Bundros was just a few votes shy of the fourth seat garnering 16.6 percent, followed by Dom Payne with 12.1 percent. 10,522 votes had been counted.Â
Roland Velasco, Peter Leroe-Munoz and Dion Bracco led the race for three open seats on the Council with only 4 of 26 precincts reporting. Velasco led with 22.3 percent of the vote, followed by Leroe-Munoz with 21.6 percent and Bracco with 20.4 percent. Paul Kloecker was on the cusp of victory, trailing by 44 votes, followed by Tom Fischer with 17 percent of the vote. 6,956 votes had been counted.Â
