GILROY—The future of Christopher boys water polo looks bright—especially now that it has the league Freshman of the Year on its roster.
The Cougars’ Russell Case, who plays 2-meter offense, was the named the Monterey Bay League Freshman of the Year Tuesday. He’s one of 10 area players to take home postseason honors in water polo and was also named Second Team All-League.
Four local players received First Team All-League honors. Christopher’s Zach Gallardo (junior, utility) and Gordy Papalias (senior, 2-meter defense) received the First Team nod, as did Gilroy’s Brendan Reimer (senior, 2-meter defense) and Sam Mandel (senior, driver).
Christopher goalie Ryan Weberg as well as teammates Case and Max Deliz (junior, utility) all received Second Team All-League honors. Jonathan Campozano, Gilroy’s junior driver, was also named to the team.
Jesus Marin of Christopher and Ben Reeder from Gilroy were both named to the “Pursuing Victory with Honor” team.
