Gilroy – A domestic dispute between a Gilroy man and his teen-age girlfriend Thursday escalated over the course of several hours, and at several locations, before the young woman escaped with the couple’s baby and told police she was threatened, battered and held against her will.
Police arrested her boyfriend, Joshua Miller Munoz, 19, of 8360 Forest St. Friday afternoon on suspicion of possessing and brandishing a firearm, false imprisonment, domestic abuse, vandalism, and making threats to immediate family. Munoz was booked into county jail in San Jose, where he was held on a probation violation.
Police twice were called to reports of domestic fights involving a handgun Thursday evening, only to find the people had left the scenes by the time they arrived. At 5:30pm, witnesses reported a fight, involving a gun, on Ivy Street. When police arrived, the fighting people were gone, said Sgt. Kurt Svardal.
“The witnesses we talked to did not see any sort of weapon,” he said.
A half-hour later, police again were called to a domestic dispute, by residents of Forest Street, adjacent to Ivy. The witnesses there were trying to calm Munoz and his 17-year-old girlfriend, when he pulled out a gun, according to police.
“He was telling them to ‘Stay out of this,’ and pointing a gun at them,” Svardal said.
Munoz forced his 17-year-old girlfriend and infant to flee the residence with him before police arrived, Svardal said.
At some point Thursday evening, the girl fled from Munoz, and just before 10pm, she arrived at the police station to report the abuse, he said. She suffered some “notable” injuries, including bruises and abrasions, Svardal said. The couple’s infant was not injured.
The next day, Friday, Munoz called the victim. He told her he was at 8294 Swanston Lane, where police arrested him at 2:10pm.
