Santa Clara County officials are pursuing an “aggressive” timeline to name a new education leader, according to its board president.
“Our projected timeline is very aggressive given our goal of naming a new superintendent by July 1” said Leon Beauchman, board president, in a press release. “However, the most important result is to ensure that we select the right person for the job.”
This week, the board discussed how it plans to proceed in finding a new Superintendent of Schools to replace former Santa Clara County Superintendent Xavier De La Torre.
The April 15 meeting was a first-of-its kind for the board in to discuss a new leader to head the Santa Clara County Office of Education. School officials will be working alongside search firm Ray and Associates.
Search committee
District officials said a search committee formed with community members and staff including employee group representatives providing board input to finalize process criteria.
A national search will be conducted, and advertisements for the position are scheduled to be posted the week of April 21 with an application window open until late May, district officials said.
Interviews are anticipated in June, according to the board.
The board appointed Mary Ann Dewan as interim Superintendent. Dr. Dewan was hired as Chief Schools Officer for the board of education in October 2013.
