DEAR EDITOR:

Good for the City Council to build a cultural center, better that they chose the site at Seventh and Eigleberry Streets. This site is ideal for the center. I also like Councilman Al Pinheiro’s stick-to-it-iveness and his sense and ability to represent all the people of Gilroy (although I do not always agree with his positions.)

I hope that the lights in the core area will burn brighter and perhaps they can add a couple of light posts. I hope that our streets will be swept every once in a while. I hope also there is greater police patrol activity and not just when they are in the neighborhood with red lights flashing.

I also hope that the city guardians realize that more support personnel are needed to insure that code enforcement, as one example, becomes a full-time position and just to name another, the vehicle abatement officer.

And on another subject – Kohl’s Department Store. We have enough retailers paying $5 to $6.75 per hour. Do we need another? Perhaps what we need is a fair exchange: if subsidy is given to induce them to come to Gilroy they should be required to pay a “living wage.”
