Santa arrives in Gilroy
GILROY
– On Saturday, Dec. 7, Santa Clause will take time out from his
busy schedule at the North Pole to visit kids in Gilroy. Santa will
be at Wal-Mart from 10 to 11 a.m., at Arteaga’s supermarket at
South Valley Plaza from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Safeway from 1
to 2 p.m., and at Mama Mia’s Ristor
ante from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. Afterwards, Santa will visit
historic Downtown. Family fun and refreshments will be available
starting at 4 p.m., with a musical program and tree lighting
accompanying Santa’s arrival at 5 p.m. at the corner of Monterey
and Fifth streets. If kids haven’t visited with Sant
a yet, they can do so at 5:45 p.m. at Santa Land at the Chamber
of Commerce office. A free photo with Santa will be available at
the Chamber of Commerce location. Free coloring books and candy

Sha-Boom’s lead singers host fund raiser

SAN JOSE – Sha-Boom lead singers Dee Quinet and John Dotson have been using their singing talents for the past 20 years to help raise funds for schools throughout Northern and Central California. Now, for the first time, they will be playing for their own programs at Evergreen Valley High School in San Jose. Coach Quinet is the head football coach and Athletic Director while Coach Dotson assists in football and coaches boys and girls Badminton. Both men are a bit unusual in that they are still coaching. They each have over 30 years of experience in the East Side Union High School District. This coming New Year’s Eve they’ll have a chance to prove it when they host a party at the Walnut Creek Marriott Hotel. Take a picture with Santa

GILROY – Join Coldwell Banker, 7789 Wren Ave., Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a picture with Santa. Omelet and Pancake Supper

GILROY – The Gilroy Lions Club annual Omelet and Pancake Supper will be held Friday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 6000 Miller Ave., Gilroy. Celebrate at Bonfante

GILROY – Bonfante Gardens will hold a community holiday celebration on Sunday, Dec. 8 to show appreciation for the support and devotion that the community has shown to Bonfante Gardens. The park located along Hecker Pass will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Admission to the park is free. There will be a $2 fee for parking. All of the rides have been shut down for the season, except the carousel, which will be running. Christmas boutique

GILROY – Mark your calendars for the St. Mary Mother’s Guild Annual Country Christmas Boutique to be held on Friday, Dec. 6 from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Country Christmas Boutique will feature over 40 vendors selling a variety of arts and crafts and other homemade items. Food For Families

GILROY – Customers at Raley’s family of stores can help feed a neighboring family while shopping for their own meals. Food For Families, the nonprofit program that gives food banks a chance to fill their pantry needs, is seeking non-perishable food and cash donations. Now through Jan. 3, Food For Families donation bins can be found at 132 Raley’s, Nob Hill Foods and Food Source locations throughout California, New Mexico and Northern Nevada, including the Nob Hill location on First Street in Gilroy. Toys for Tots

GILROY – This year the Fire Department is assisting the United States Marine Corps with the annual Toys for Tots Program. The purpose for this program is to collect and distribute Christmas gifts for less fortunate children and children in foster care residing in the South County area. GILROY – The Community Service Club of South Valley Middle School is holding a jacket drive now through Dec. 20. The club is asking people to donate old jackets and sweatshirts for needy families in the community. ‘La Virgen Del Tepeyac’

SAN JUAN BAUTISTA – El Teatro Campesino presents its biennial spectacle of vibrant music, sacral theatre and Aztec Dance, “La Virgen Del Tepeyac.” This special Christmas offering, dramatizing the four apparitions of Our Lady Of Guadalupe to the Indian messenger Juan Diego in 1531, is a reenactment of the miraculous events that inspired the religious rebirth of Indigenous Mexico a mere 10 years after the Spanish Conquest.

This production marks the 32nd year of El Teatro Campesino’s Christmas productions in San Juan Bautista. Performances will run through Dec. 22. Tickets sell out early. Property taxes due

GILROY – The first installment of the 2002/2003 property taxes will be delinquent if not paid by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10. At that time a 10 percent penalty will be added, according to the Santa Clara County Tax Collector’s Office. Payments should be mailed, along with the first installment stub, to the Tax Collector’s Office, 70 West Hedding St., San Jose, CA 95110. The U.S. postmark MUST be Dec. 10 or earlier to avoid penalties. Therefore, it is important to mail early or obtain a proof of mailing from the post office. Details:
