Eleanor M. Viscarra of Hollister died in her home on Sunday,
Oct. 20.
Viscarra was born in Delano, Calif. She came to San Benito
County 54 years ago.

Viscarra was born in Delano, Calif. She came to San Benito County 54 years ago.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish, a member of Teamsters Local 890 of Salinas, president of the PTA where her children were in school, an active member of the club DAMAS which raised money for scholarships for students. She was nominated for Woman of the Year by LULAC for her record of volunteering in the community. She was a great cook, her children said. She and her husband have been married for 54 years. She was an avid supporter of Sacred Heart Bingo and enjoyed going to Reno. She was a Miami Dolphins fan.

She is survived by her husband Alfonso Viscarra of Hollister; children Annie Galmeister and her husband Robert of Ione, Eva Ortiz and husband Ray of San Jose, Ruth Haro and husband Henry of Gilroy, Lorraine Hermosillo of Escondido, Christina Barrett of Hollister, Elisa Dalling and husband James of Vacaville, Alfonso Jr. Viscarra and wife Rebecca of Morgan Hill, Lydia Casas of Hollister, Canny Viscarra of Gilroy, Teresa Viscarra of Hollister and Arthur Viscarra of Hollister; 25 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and mother Gavina G. Garcia of San Jose; nieces and nephews; and brothers and sisters, Herman Sotelo of Fresno, Hortencia Chaigres of Gilroy, Ruben Sotelo of San Jose, Alice Polanco of San Jose, Irene Pena of Gilroy, Salvador Sotelo of Gilroy, Jessie Sotelo of Hollister, Alma Sill of Loveland, Colo., Mario Sotelo of Walnut and two late brothers and one later sister.

Her father Juan Sotelo preceded her in death.

Friends are invited to attend the rosary on Wednesday evening at 7 at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home. Family and friends will leave the mortuary Thursday at 9:30 a.m. to go to Sacred Heart church for a mass at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the mortuary chapel.
