its first league game against Seaside despite strong first

GILROY – The Gilroy High School girls soccer teams suffered a 4-1 loss in its first league game against Seaside despite strong first half.
The Mustangs, who are playing under new Head Coach Adam Gemar, played solid defense in the first half.
The first and only goal for the Mustangs was half way through the first half Left forward Cydney Fong booted in the goal on an assist by Heather Link.
But Seaside answered right back, scoring a goal a few minutes later.
“I was really impressed with the defense at the start,” Gemar said about the Mustangs, who took a 1-1 tie into half time.”We broke down a little bit in the second half.”
The Lady Mustangs came up empty in the second half, even though the team had several opportunities. Seaside scored three goals.
“We stepped it up a lot compared to the two other games,” Fong said about the way the team performed.
The player of the game was junior goalie Megan Olea. Olea came up with huge saves that kept Seaside at bay.
Olea stays focused and is willing to sacrifice everything to stop a ball, Gemar said.
Risking it all, she dived and jumped into players, blocking many shots on goal.
“I think I stepped it up a lot,” Olea said. “I still could have done better on my diving.”
