Police department members met last week to share these statistics in their ongoing analysis efforts and discuss the newly implemented Strategic Crime Approach, an effort introduced by Police Chief Denise Turner intended to focus on crime suppression and disseminate information more efficiently, police said.
“The meetings have been very helpful to focus our collective efforts on the most pressing crime issues for our community. The process has helped us highlight some data collection issues and improve our statistics. I truly believe when we focus our time and attention to specific issues we can make an impact,” said Turner
Fourteen of the 35 people placed on the Lucky 7 roster, a list of the city’s most worrisome criminals including gang members, graffiti vandals, and offenders on parole or with warrants, have also been arrested.
Police said the most reported crime during November was graffiti vandalism, with 153 calls for service pertaining to graffiti in November alone. But that represents a 56 percent decrease in reported graffiti compared to October 2008.
