Team Techron captured the first-half Men’s Basketball League

GILROY – Team Techron captured the first-half Men’s Basketball League title Wednesday with a 53-52 squeaker over Crunch Time at Solorsano Gym.
Ryan Taylan’s layup off an offensive rebound lifted Techron to a 53-52 lead with 45 seconds to play. Two short field goal attempts by Crunch Time failed to recapture the lead in the closing seconds.
Kevin Siha threaded five three-point field goals on the way to 20 points for Team Techron. The win left Techron atop the eight-team league with a 5-1 mark. A Crunch Time victory would have left the league with a four-team tie for first place.
Mark Taylan added four 3-pointers to finish with 12 Techron points. Frank Tomasetti made five critical free throws in the second half on the way to nine points for the champions.
Kyle Billups anchored the Crunch Time attack with 17 points, 13 in the second half as the Crunchers responded to a 28-25 intermission deficit. Tony Shebib popped in 10 of his 15 points in the first half. Tucker Baksa delivered two 3-pointers in a 13-point display.
The Warriors finished the half at 4-2 by outlasting the Gilroy Bulls 46-42.
Arnold Tellez worked inside for 15 points, Mike Vanni hustled for 11 and Adolfo Tellez added 10 for the Warriors. The Warriors built a 26-20 halftime lead. Chris Niffenegger and Hector Salgado each struck for 11 points for the Gilroy Bulls.
Hard Ninety (2-4) surprised GC Farms 50-29 behind a 17-point explosion by Aaron Foster. Rick Hattaway drained three 3-pointers to finish with 11 points for Hard Ninety. Michael Yoshida managed eight points for GC Farms (3-3).
Valerie Smith Intero upset South Valley Disposal 62-56 in overtime.
Kevin Steele hit three free throws in the extra session and led the Realtors (3-3) with 21 points. Marcos Barbosa capped a 17-point night with a 3-pointer in overtime. Rick Vasquez carried the South Valley Disposal (4-2) attack with 23 points. Donnie Gooding helped the Disposal cause with 13 points.
Gaeta’s Ballers defeated Western Tree Nursery 49-38 in Women’s League play Monday, leaving both teams at 5-1 atop the four-team league.
Gaeta’s and Western Tree play at 7pm on Monday Dec. 15 at Solorsano Gym for the first-half crown.
Laura Hennessee collected 18 points, Naomi Ruiz 13 and Monica Pantoja 11 for Gaeta’s, the defending league champion. Katie Harold topped the Western Tree offense with 14 points, while Michelle Deleissegues hit for 12.
Shante Mancera scored 24 points and Cherie Somavia garnered 10 in a 42-31 Williams Dental Lab win over the Garlic Girls. Nancy Rhodes paced the Garlic attack with 15 points.
