Whitaker has been named a finalist in the 2008 National Merit
Scholarship Program (NMSC).

Mount Madonna School is pleased to announce senior Andrew Whitaker has been named a finalist in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSC). Andrew is among 16,000 of the highest-scoring seniors nationwide who qualified for the program. Recognition in this program is a marker of exceptional academic promise.
“Teachers have been willing to engage with me on many levels, always willing to answer the next question, no matter how seemingly random,” Andrew said.
Of those students obtaining Finalist standing, some 8,000 are ultimately awarded Merit Scholarships.
High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) – a test which serves as an initial screen of entrants each year – and by meeting published program entry requirements. Approximately 1.4 million students nationwide entered the current competition.
Rachel Murdock
Rachel Murdock, of Gilroy and a junior at Wells College in Aurora, N.Y., has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2007 semester. To be eligible for the list, a student must carry a 3.5 GPA or better.
Sierra L. Barroza
Sierra Barroza of Gilroy was named to the dean’s list at Sonoma State University for the fall semester 2007 for the school of social sciences. Sierra is a junior and majoring in history. Students need at least a 3.5 GPA to make the list. Sierra carried 15 units.
