A Gilroy man was arrested in Morgan Hill Thursday evening after a police officer found him inside his vehicle apparently under the influence and obstructing the public thoroughfare with his car.
Vincente Salinas, 52, of Gilroy was booked into Santa Clara County Jail just before 9 p.m. on Thursday.
According to Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing, Morgan Hill Multi-service Officer Victor Benitez was driving on Santa Teresa Boulevard near Sunshine Street when he saw a parked vehicle that he believed was a traffic hazard. As he approached it on foot, he realized there was someone in the vehicle.
Salinas was in the vehicle, Swing said, and was apparently under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Salinas also was on parole, and he had an outstanding $10,000 warrant for DUI and driving on a suspended license.
He was arrested without incident.
A multi-service officer is an officer that is not a sworn officer and does not carry a gun but assists with transporting prisoners and other duties.
