Measure B is an economy-killing “if” tax – “if” the BART line to San Jose ever gets built … “if” we can ever afford to maintain it … “if” people actually decide to use it …

The Valley Transportation Authority – perhaps the worst public transit agency in America – has again proposed a tax increase. The ill-advised measure on the November ballot would raise the sales tax in Santa Clara County – which is already at a whopping 8.25 percent – at a time when retail sales are plummeting and hurting municipal as well as county government.

What we clearly don’t need is another tax to fund a transit line that might never be built. It clearly isn’t the best time to be betting on federal transportation dollars to flow our way. This transportation tax proposal gives brand new meaning to the phrase “betting on the come.” The only thing taxpayers can bet their bottom dollar on is that the VTA will be coming back for more.

Send a loud message: No on Measure B.
