Rigorous interview process could lead to Distinguished School
Award
Las Animas Elementary School staff are biting their nails today as officials from the California Department of Education are conducting site validations.
Not a run-of-the-mill visit, the state officials are spending 10 hours on campus judging the school for the Distinguished School Award, a prestigious honor bestowed upon schools that are the state’s most exemplary and inspiring public schools, according to the CDE’s Web site.
The last stage in the long process that began in December, Las Animas is hosting a crew of judges that will tour each classroom and interview each employee today.
“Finally some good news amongst the gloom and doom hitting education,” said Las Animas parent, Diana Wolf Torres.
State Superintendent Jack O’Connell will announce the winners of the 2008 Distinguished Elementary Schools April 15.
