El Roble Elementary will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a
day of festivities starting at 1 p.m. Friday, May 16 with a parade
led by the three

Queens of El Roble,

Roberta Bertero, Patti Littlejohn and Mary Garcia, three women
who were some of the first teachers.
A ceremony honoring the anniversary will be held at 2 p.m. to be
followed by a carnival from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Admission to the carnival is free and open to the community. The
school invites former staff, alumni and the public to celebrate at
El Roble Elementary School.

‘The Little Mermaid’ comes to Glen View

Glen View Elementary School invites the community to a unique dramatic and musical performance. The Missoula Children’s Theatre has been touring for 34 years now from Montana to Japan, and will be in Gilroy this week.

The team of two actors arrived Monday with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play – except the cast. During the week, the team will hold auditions and cast 60 Glen View students. The students will perform the play 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. today. There will also be a matinee 5 p.m. Saturday.

Take a tour of beautiful Gilroy homes

The Gilroy Assistance League will be holding its annual Home Tour today and Saturday in Gilroy. The cost is $25 in advance, $30 at the door, to tour four fabulous homes in Eagle Ridge. The decor of all homes is unique with many fun touches done by the homeowners. The last house on the tour features a fabulous garden and visitors will be able to enjoy wine, hors d’oeuvres and a retail boutique featuring home and garden decor.

The tours run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and start at 1944 St. Andrews Circle, Gilroy. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling (408) 848-5106.

Quilt show luncheon at Willey House

The Willey House, 140 Fifth St., will be the setting for a quilt show and luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It is a fundraiser and membership drive for the Gilroy Branch of the American Association of University Women.

Spring sale provides winter cheer

Community Solutions’ Holiday Giving Program will hold its first benefit sale to raise funds to help local families in need during the holiday season.

Sale items in good used condition, include small appliances, clothing, household goods, books, home decor, toys, framed artwork, tools and camping and sports equipment. Proceeds benefit the Holiday Giving Program, which serves more than 100 families each year.

The sale tales place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 13435 Chaparral Road, Morgan Hill.
