Gilroy preschoolers gathered to celebrate Earth Day by planting native sprouts they raised in the classroom. This pilot program, sponsored by Coastal Habitat Education and Environmental Restoration and FIRST 5 of Santa Clara County, focused on fostering environmental stewardship at an early age. After weeks of learning about native plants and raising California poppies in the classroom, children planted their seedlings in the riparian corridor at Christmas Hill Park Tuesday afternoon.
