Jammers win JV tournament; Lady Titans take second to start
spring season
The frosh/soph Jammers, made up of seven freshmen and three sophomores from four different High Schools in South County, recently won the East Palo Alto JV Tourney with a thrilling overtime victory over the Tri-City Rockets, 41-37.

Using every player on the roster, according to coach Duane Ross, the Jammers were able to swarm to the ball for all four quarters on defense, stifling the Rockets’ big man and guards.

“It was really a defensive battle,” Ross said. “We held them scoreless in the last two minutes.”

The team’s next tournament will be Saturday, April 19.

GILROY GIRLS AAU

The Gilroy Lady Titans took second place in their first tournament of the spring season last weekend.

Composed of Gilroy High freshmen and sophomores, and one junior, the team beat South San Francisco 37-22 after demolishing the Monterey Bay Ballers 59-5. The Lady Titans lost a tough game to Team Santa Cruz in the championship, 55-47.

After allowing 12-straight points to start the game, the Gilroy-based ballplayers cut the lead to five, 26-21, by halftime, but couldn’t overcome the deficit in the end.

“I believe they gave it all they had to come back,” coach Susan Shapiro said, noting that Santa Cruz’ team was made up of primarily varsity players.

Sovi Nou had 11 points in the final game after scoring 26 in the first two games combined. Alana Osaki had 10 points in the final and Carmen Pichardo “was a huge defensive plus for us,” Shapiro said.

The team will now geat ready for this weekend’s San Jose Scholars Tournament.
