Gilroy Alumni Return to GHS for Benefit Game Against Current
‘Stangs
Gilroy – Tuesday, Gilroy High basketball alums were invited back to their old stomping grounds for the first GHS alumni basketball game in 13 years.
Before a crowded gym, the current Mustangs came from behind to beat the alumni 67-65 in the first alumni game since 1992.
“They looked good,” said Gilroy varsity assistant coach Jeremy Dirks of this year’s squad. “(Senior forward) Ryan Chisolm made some free throws down the stretch and some nice jumpers.”
Dirks, a 1993 GHS grad who also played in the game, organized the event when he found the ‘Stangs had an opening in their schedule. Because of the strong turnout, Dirks plans on continuing to put together an alumni game.
The alumni roster featured former GHS from over the past 15 years. Some left GHS and continued to play in college, like Scott Ksellsvig (GHS class of ’90), who played four years at Cal Poly, and Rich Klauer (class of ’95) who played at Gavilan and Chico State. Multi-sport stars Chris Giminez, who went on to play baseball at University of Nevada-Reno after he graduated in 1995 and now plays minor league ball with the Cleveland Indians, and Ryan Hinn, also a ’95 grad who played baseball at Santa Clara, also played.
