Gilroy's Dylan Jensen battles for a loose ball with Salinas

Mustangs now wait to see what seed they receive in CCS
playoffs
The Gilroy High boys basketball team had Tri-County Athletic League champion Salinas High in its sights at halftime.

However, a 6-for-27 shooting performance in the second half, coupled with an abundance of Cowboys’ made free throws, sent the Mustangs into a bit of a tailspin over the final 16 minutes en route to a 69-51 loss in the regular-season finale Friday night in Gilroy.

In stark contrast to the teams’ first meeting Jan. 29 where Salinas (23-1, 12-0 TCAL) overwhelmed the Mustangs in the first half, jumping out to a 55-31 halftime lead (31-13 after the first quarter), Gilroy kept pace with the Cowboys on Friday night and trailed 36-31 at the break.

However, the wheels fell off the wagon at the offensive end, and shots that fell in the first half suddenly encountered an unforgiving rim.
