The Gilroy Police Department has arrested Mark Oliveira, 34, who is suspected of committing a vehicle burglary Friday morning and another in January.
GPD Officer Amanda Stanford said an investigation was ongoing and it was possible Oliveira could be tied to other auto burglaries.
About 3:30 a.m. Friday, a GPD officer saw a blue Toyota truck exiting a business parking lot. The officer observed the driver attempt to conceal his face when the vehicle passed by, according to a GPD press release.
A short time later, the GPD received a call of a vehicle burglary that just occurred. The witness said they saw a blue truck enter the parking lot with its headlights off, according to the press release.
Police say the truck parked near the victim’s vehicle and the driver exited. The witness lost sight of the driver, who was carrying a bag and wearing gloves, but saw the suspect exiting from the victim’s vehicle, police said.
The suspect entered the blue truck – which matched the description from the witness and the GPD officer – and left the parking lot, according to the GPD.
Police said the truck was located at a nearby gas station and the driver was contacted by an officer. The witness to the earlier crime identified the driver, Oliveira, as the person who committed the burglary, according to the GPD.
A parole search was conducted at Oliveira’s residence, where the items taken in the vehicle burglary were located, police said.
Those items included two video screens from vehicle headrests, a digital camera and a case of CDs, Stanford said.
Stanford said a purse with identification cards taken from a vehicle in January were also located at the residence.
Oliveira was transported to the Santa Clara County Jail and booked on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and parole hold, police said.
