Two people, including a pregnant woman, were injured in a traffic accident this afternoon.

Police responded to the accident at the intersection of East Dunne Avenue and U.S. 101 about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A white two-door Acura collided with a green Chevrolet Cavalier, injuring one occupant in each vehicle, according to witnesses at the scene.

Lolita Cavinta, 38, of Morgan Hill, was driving the Cavalier, said her boyfriend Scott Mead, who was in the passenger’s seat. Cavinta was turning off northbound U.S. 101 onto westbound Dunne Avenue, Mead said.

As she made the left turn through a green traffic light, the Acura, which was traveling east on Dunne Avenue, collided with the front driver’s side of the Chevrolet in the middle of the intersection, Mead said.

The driver of the Acura proceeded illegally through the intersection “with no regard for the red light,” Mead said.

Cavinta, who is eight months pregnant, said she hurt her arm, and held an ice pack on the injury while waiting for police and paramedics to assist her at the scene.

An occupant of the Acura was loaded onto a stretcher and into an ambulance at the scene.

The other occupant of the Acura, who appeared to be uninjured, declined to comment.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage, including smashed windshields and crushed front and side fenders.
