It’s not that he showed you how to consistently hit a driver more than 300 yards, or to hit a 6-iron 200. The fact of that matter is very few players can relate to that kind of length. Moreover, Rory does one thing on the golf course consistently that improves his play and the play of others around him. The thing that Rory does best can be done by you and any players regardless of skill level. He plays fast.
McIlroy doesn’t look at a putt from seven different angles. He doesn’t take four practice swings, back away and take four more. McIlroy doesn’t stand behind his fairway shot to line it up as if it was a putt.
Don’t get me wrong; Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods did an incredible amount to increase participation and promote the game of golf. However, they also helped add 30 minutes to a round because golfers were trying to emulate them and their routine. Hopefully we can get back to a quicker pace of play.
For those of you who are looking for someone to copy, copy Rory. Step up and hit it!
