“The reason I’m calling is to let people know about their taxes. I did not get my tax bill from the county. I got a phone call from someone who knew me. It was put in their envelope with their tax thing. I feel that this could happen to someone else in Gilroy and they should know about it and know who to call. Their phone number is 808-7900. It is the county’s fault, not yours.”

Red Phone: Dear Tax Man Cometh, Thanks for the reminder, good caller. According to the county’s website, Santa Clara County property owners should have received their bill by Friday. It is up to you to contact the office if you have not received one.

You can send or bring in your payments to Tax Collector’s Office; 70 West Hedding Street; East Wing, 6th Floor; San Jose, CA 95110. Or you can also pay online at sccgov.org/portal/site/tax. You will need your Assessor’s Parcel Number or the Assessment Number to file. But you can find the number online by entering your address. There is a 2.5 percent charge for credit cards. The first of two payments is due Nov. 1 and must be postmarked by 5 p.m. Dec. 12 to avoid a late fee. The second is due Feb. 1 and must be paid by April 10.
