Nothing like a little championship-game drama.

The Orchard Valley Chaos girls U14 soccer team had basically breezed through its first three games of last weekend’s Northern California Spring Showcase, shutting out opponents in each while torching the net for 16 goals.

However, facing a team out of Colorado in the championship tilt, the Chaos needed penalty kicks to earn the title.

After regulation and two overtime periods, the contest shifted to the PK shootout. The Chaos converted their end of the deal with goals while goalie Ale Aceves came up with two key saves to secure the victory and the championship.

In a two-day tournament that featured teams from California, Oregon, Colorado and Canada, the Chaos comfortably eased through Day 1 with victories of 6-0 and 8-0.

The second day of competition proved to be a bit more challenging but a 2-0 triumph over a team out of Danville sent the Chaos into the finals.

The Chaos will next hit the pitch at the State Cup held at the Morgan Hill Outdoor Complex on March 26-27.
