The eyesore of the week (Nov. 22, 2011) is located on Alexander

Piles of garbage around and next to the tree on Alexander Street near Eighth Street have been removed, according to Hipolito Olmos, a code enforcement officer with the City of Gilroy.

Olmos said that a certified letter was sent to the property owner, Union Pacific in Omaha, Neb., Nov. 3.

“The site continues to be used as an illegal dump site, homeless encampment and a public nuisance,” according to the complaint filed with the city. Olmos said the city review the complaint and the area was in violation of several codes, that in turn labeled it as blight. The city informed Union Pacific that it had 15 days to clean the area, and it was checked again on Nov. 18 and was found to be cleared.

The large white trash trailer does remain, however.
