In an 11th hour move, the developer withdrew his application for a “shovel ready” exemption for the project on Wildflower Court at Mesa Road. The City Council was scheduled to hold the public hearing and vote regarding this request on Monday, Jan. 10.
We would like to thank the applicant for changing their position on this issue and recognizing that this property is better suited for the 12-unit development as currently approved.
We would also like to publicly thank the mayor and Council members for their help and support. In particular we would like to thank the countless neighbors, community members and residents from throughout the city that got involved and participated in this process. We would not have been successful without your help.
We believe that it is time for the City Council to revisit the “shovel ready” ordinance to evaluate its benefit to the city. We strongly recommend they consider as a minimum, a change that would not allow projects with existing building allotments or development agreements to participate. We know from our experience how disruptive and stressful increases in density are to established communities that surround these projects.
