The diner’s owner George Sammut said he was impressed with the second grader’s readings after he listened to them at St. Mary School, located at 7900 Church St., during a Grandparent’s Day prayer service in October.
So when it came time to record a 60-second ad for his family-friendly restaurant, Sammut selected a pair of students to catch listeners’ attention via radio waves.
“It’s been very exciting,” said Emma’s mother Kelly Barbazette. “Every time Emma’s grandma hears it on the radio she calls us and lets us know.”
Noah’s mother Shelda Reynolds said her son handled it like a pro.
“Noah’s pretty confident when it comes to that kind of stuff,” she said. “He blows us out of the water.”
The commercial, which features Reynolds and Barbazette pretending to be newscasters reporting about Black Bear Diner, can be heard on KWAV-FM 97, a Monterey-based radio station.
