Mustangs beat Salinas in season finale
Senior Lindsay Holt picked the right time to hit her first home run at home this season.

Holt’s two-run blast – her third of the season – with one out in the bottom of the sixth gave the Gilroy High softball team just enough to eke by visiting Salinas 2-1 on Senior Day in Gilroy.

The Mustangs’ bats had been silent until that point.

The Cowboys plated their lone run in the top of the first and held the lead until Holt’s game-changer.

Gilroy wraps up the regular season with a 21-4 overall record and a 12-2 mark in the Tri-County Athletic League – good for a second place finish. San Benito finished first.

The Mustangs now await their seeding into the Central Coast Section Division I playoffs, which will be ironed out Saturday.

— Seven seniors – Sarah Lira, Dani Hemeon, Melanie Morelos, Stephanie Gomez, Elaina Vasquez, Lindsay Holt and Stephanie Rodriguez – were honored pregame for their services and commitment to the GHS softball program.
