GUSD board will receive update on the process of
filling the vacant board seat
Gilroy – As the Nov. 22 application deadline inches closer, the Gilroy Unified School District board is rushing to ensure that the public is familiar with the process required to fill the seat vacated when TJ Owens died in October.

Owens was serving as board president at the time of his death.

During the board’s Nov. 3 meeting, trustees Rhoda Bress, Tom Bundros and Jaime Rosso volunteered to serve on the subcommittee overseeing the process to fill the seat.

Tonight the three board members will give the GUSD board an update on the proceedings.

During the meeting, Linda Piceno, GUSD assistant superintendent of human resources, will provide the board with information pertaining to the number of credentialed teachers.

Piceno also will address the necessity of retaining teachers and how competitive the district’s salary packages are compared to those in other districts.

District officials also will stage a presentation on current enrollment of Gilroy schools.

Information on the number of students transferring to surrounding districts and their parents reasons for sending them elsewhere will be discussed.
