Dear Editor,
Ruth Sicard has a great idea (three 30-minute lunch periods),
but I would instead recommend two one-hour ones, coinciding with a
return to one-hour class periods (actually, 50 minutes with a
10-minute break to get to class). Freshmen and sophomores have an
11am to noon lunch and juniors and seniors have it from noon to
1pm.

This makes a seven-period day with necessary, regular breaks, and every period starting on the hour. This may not sit well with those who came up with the current blocks, since fascists cannot let go of power or admit they’re wrong, but I cannot imagine while in high school (Gilroy, 1979-83) having to sit through more than one hour of anything at a time. I guess that’s why Saturday detention was such a killer, but still well worth it.
