As a parent of a four-year athlete at Gilroy High, and a former president of an athletic booster club, I have worked with Jack Daley on many levels. I found Jack to honest, fair, and a tireless worker on behalf of Gilroy High athletics.

Jack’s personal style was very beneficial when dealing with an internal athletic issue during my son’s sophomore year. As a booster club president I found Jack to be an excellent partner in working to make our athlete’s athletic experience at Gilroy High both memorable and fun.

Jack has been a presence at virtually every Gilroy High on-campus sporting event, many times juggling multiple events. He is there early and unlocks the doors, and is the one who locks them up long after each of us has gone home. High profile events such as CCS tournament games have gone off without a hitch under his management. In an era of budget cuts, and the addition of another school to compete for local financial support, Jack’s leadership has helped maintain Gilroy High programs. Jack’s input on the new conference structure that Gilroy High will compete in, has insured that Gilroy High will compete on a level playing field for years to come. Anyone who has attended the Cioppino Feed surely is impressed with it’s operation as well as it’s results.

At a school the size of Gilroy High, I am sure you will find some detractors. When you deal with as many athletes and parents as Jack has over the years, you are not going to please everyone. But I think you will be hard pressed to find anyone that would question Jack’s character, or commitment.

I do not know all the facts in this decision. Maybe it’s just a result of society’s current need to have “somebody pay.” But I am truly saddened by the loss of Jack Daley to the Gilroy High athletic program. I encourage the district to reconsider this decision.
