Dear Editor,

There are many ways to contribute to one’s community, volunteer at schools, coach sports, being friendly and civil to one’s neighbors and acquaintances, apparently none of these matter to columnist James Fennell and whomever generously nominated our home for his TRASH award (anonymously it seems ).

Instead of expressing their concerns to us over the appearance of our house with a conversation or note they have chosen to humiliate and call us names in the paper. How very kind of you Mr Fennell!

You know nothing of the challenges this family faces, financial, medical, or otherwise, yet you presume to tell us what our priorities should be, “don’t let your mess bother me.” If the color of our house trim or landscaping offends you, that’s just too bad! We would never presume to tell Mr. Fennell what color is acceptable for his home. We will continue to set our own priorities which put civility and service above appearances, and hope our neighbors will understand.

Before Mr. Fennell uses his pulpit to cruelly belittle other Gilroy residents he should do more research than just driving by their home, perhaps he could talk to the party involved, maybe even offer help (that would be real community service) instead of pointing his finger and hurling insults.

Cordially, the ” inconsiderate slobs” at 1120 Ayer Dr.
