Find a loving companion animal
Gilroy – The Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter need help to find loving families for the many homeless companion animals currently at the shelter and in foster homes.
Visit the FOSMAS pet fairs from noon to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday at Petco on San Ysidro Avenue. There will be many wonderful companion animals available for adoption.

Enjoy a crab dinner and dance
Gilroy – Residents will have a chance to feast on crab, dance with a loved one to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and support a good cause Saturday, during an event sponsored by the Gilroy Knights of Columbus Council 2469.
The event at St. Mary Parish Hall, at First and Church streets, begins with a happy hour at 6pm, followed by the crab feed at 7pm.
Proceeds from tickets – $35 a person – will support scholarships and charitable activities. To purchase tickets, stop by the parish office at 55 First St., or call Frank Borge at 842-4357 or Stanley Villalobos at 848-9865.

Free movies at Gilroy Library
Gilroy – The Gilroy Library will be screening “American Dream Cinema: Ethnic Experiences on Film” each of the remaining Saturdays in February in conjunction with more than 40 other events for Silicon Valley Reads 2007.
The films all touch on immigration, the American dream and other themes of the Silicon Valley Reads 2007 book, “The Tortilla Curtain” by T.C. Boyle.
At 2pm Saturday, filmmaker John Carlos Frey will be at the library for a screening of his film “The Invisible Mexicans of Deer Canyon.” After the screening, he will be available for comments and the film will be available for purchase.
Silicon Valley Reads 2007 events at the Gilroy Library will wrap up at 1pm Feb. 24 with a screening of Sundance Award Winner, “Picture Bride.”
Silicon Valley Reads asks everyone in the community to read the same book, at the same time and to discuss it with friends, family and co-workers.
