Rennovation rejects:
”
I’m calling regarding the articles about El Roble School and the
new high school renovation project and it brought to attention a
concern and a suggestion to El Roble and the high school to be very
sure someone is accountable for the punchlist of the items that
need to be completed during those projects
– that are on the list to be fixed, rennovated and that they’re
truly completed and working.

“Brownell Middle School still has items that are not working regardless of the repeated requests to be fixed. Specifically the band room, the art room, the art room, the piano room, the cooking room, the heating and air conditioning and the air ventilation still don’t work. The lights in the gym continue to buzz … when will these items be rectified? They were on the list and we were told many times they’d be fixed and they still aren’t fixed.”
The Red Phone contacted Charile Van Meter, director of Gilory Unified School District’s facilities and maintenance operations, who said improvements for Brownell Middle School are tentatively scheduled for the 2007-08 school year. Renovations to the multi-purpose room are included in the plans.
However, it is possible work on the school could begin sooner, perhaps in the 2006-07 school year, if the district decides to split the list of Brownell projects into two separate phases. Before classrooms can be demolished to make room for new facilities and upgrades, the district first needs to study enrollment projections for the 2005-06 school year, Van Meter said.
thanks for the info: “My message is regarding the information on the Web site for the troops. I appreciate who wrote that … it is necessary for us to support our troops. And I appreciate the Web site because it came in handy. We all should be proud of our soldiers because they’re out there risking their lives for us everyday. Thank you.”
For anyone who may have missed it, visit www.anysoldier.com. The site offers suggestions on what troops need – letters of support are No. 1 – where to send things and how to go about it. It also offers a page with contacts and letters from those serving in the military and stationed overseas. The Red Phone encourages everyone to stop by the site and support the troops.
freedom of choice: “With all due respect to our veterans to whom I personally feel honored in their heroism, and in absolute awe at the length that our young servicemen will go on behalf of my right to write this letter and so very much more … In response to the one Veteran who asked the Red Phone to print how disappointed they all are in certain organizations for not supporting their effort of raising money for a flagpole monument. Does this person know for a fact that those mentioned have not supported the veterans of this community?
“Where my passion comes is in reaction to the mention of Christopher Ranch in a criticizing manner regarding their generous donations of charity. … How about those who don’t give at all to any organization, isn’t time for them to step up to the plate? … Keep in mind that everyone has the right of choice in his or her preference of charity.
“Thank you to all the generous people in this town, for wanting the best for us all to appreciate. I am a proud and appreciative American and Gilroyan. God Bless all our soldiers and veterans.”
Well said, caller. A big thanks to those who have shown generosity in many forms, whether by giving monetary funds, providing valuable time to an organization or offering their service in the military.
note: To the Red Phone caller who reported sprinklers running at Rod Kelley School during the storms.
Jeff Gopp, manager of the Gilory Unified School District’s Maintenance Department, took issue with Red Phone’s sarcasm and said the problem was solved immediately, which the Red Phone was unaware of when it wrote the column, due to mis – or lack of – communication.
“I sent a worker out there the day (I received Red Phone’s call to report the situation), and he found a mechanical malfunction and the problem was rectified that same day,” Gopp said.
He added, “I have a lot of good people working for me. I wish the public knew what a great job we do with just a skeleton crew.”
And now they do.
