Angel Espinoza in custody
Gilroy – One of Gilroy’s Most Wanted was arrested early Thursday morning after members of the Anti-Crime Team saw the 21-year-old enter an apartment, according to police.
He was arrested without incident on suspicion of being a parolee at large, possession of an altered shotgun, a felon in possession of a firearm and gang enhancements.
About 1:30am, Gilroy officer spotted Angel Espinoza enter an apartment in the 8500 block of Church Street. Officers were aware that Espinoza was wanted and had received information that he was armed.
Officers contacted and directed the occupants of the affected apartment to exit the residence. Officers found Espinoza in the attic of the apartment in an attempt to avoid arrest.
Officers instructed Espinoza to surrender. After a short period of time Espinoza surrendered without incident. He was found in possession of an altered shotgun and ammunition.
Espinoza was later booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for the listed criminal violations.
Danielle Rios and Thomas Vasquez were at the residence when officers initially arrived at the scene. Rios and Vasquez were arrested on suspicion of outstanding felony warrants.
Criminal gang-related enhancements will be reviewed by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. The enhancement could increase the amount of jail time Espinoza receives if convicted for the listed violations.
The Anti-Crime Team has conducted surveillance operations, employed high profile enforcement strategies and intelligence gathering in an effort to mitigate the gang related violence within the community.
