Morgan Hill – Combining forces, Morgan Hill and Gilroy traffic officers will focus on specific issues as they work the two cities for the next six weeks.

The dual enforcement period began Thursday and will continue through Aug. 16.

Two motorcycle officers from GPD will join the two MHPD motorcycle officers in Morgan Hill, doubling the number of officers available for patrolling specific areas and during specific times of the day.

MHPD Sgt. Troy Hoefling, who is coordinating the enforcement, said one of the issues officers will be concentrating on is enforcing anti-gridlock laws.

“They’re also going to be looking for turning violations and red light violations,” Hoefling said. “In Morgan Hill, we’ll be patrolling Cochrane Road and Monterey Road during high traffic and commute times.”

GPD Sgt. Jim Gillio was not available for comment Friday.

The focused enforcement is designed more for educational purposes than in accumulating fines for the two cities, Hoefling added.
