Gilroy – Two Gilroy men landed in handcuffs after police foiled a pre-planned robbery of an outlet store where one worked.
Hector Garcia Torres, 27, of the 100 block of Second Street, barged into the Quicksilver outlet store at 9am Sunday, May 27 and demanded cash and equipment. Torres had planned the robbery with the help of Quicksilver employee Dex Daniel Postigo, 21, of the 700 block of First Street, police said.
Postigo confessed to planning the robbery with Torres during a follow-up interview with Gilroy detectives, and was arrested at 10:56pm Sunday at the store on charges of robbery and conspiracy. The department’s Anti-Crime Team conducted surveillance on Torres Sunday night, and arrested him at the intersection of Sunrise Drive and Santa Teresa Boulevard, near the Sunrise Fire Station, at 1:05am Monday morning. Torres faces charges of robbery, conspiracy and a warrant arrest for grand theft.
In an interview with Detective Stan Devlin Monday morning, Torres revealed where he’d stashed the stolen cash and equipment. All the stolen goods were recovered and returned to the store.
“There was some great teamwork on this one,” said Sgt. Wes Stanford.
