Attention, men! Not sure what’s hot and what’s not this season?
We enlisted the help of local boutiques to give you the scoop
Let’s face it: A lot of guys have no clue about what’s “in” with the fashion world and what’s “out.” For many men, what they buy is what’s on sale and what fits. But, there’s a whole world of hot styles out there for guys and they’re all available at locally owned boutiques. To help the men in your life take their first tentative steps into the world of the latest fashions, we talked to the boutique owners for the inside scoop.

Deborah Wood, owner of TeeZerz in Hollister

Plaid shirts are still popular, and patterns in general are taking their place in mens fashion this year. Expect to see stripes and pin stripes and other eccentric designs and wild prints on men’s clothing.

Black is still a very dominant color in men’s clothing, but logos on T-shirts are staying popular, and hats never go out of style.

Changes in men’s fashion include reversible hoodies, skinny and straight-leg jeans in addition to the old favorites, boot-cut and relaxed fit. Also, more guys are wearing fitted shirts instead of baggy shirts.

Paulo and Denise Paredes, owners of American Rock & Royalty in Gilroy

Designs are in, especially skulls, angel wings, fleur-de-leis, random patterns and stars.

The 80s influence is still strong in this year’s spring and summer fashions, as is the rock star influence. Big belt buckles are a must.

Cadet and military-style hats are also popular this year, and expect to see wrist cuffs on more men this year.

Natalie Ricketts, owner of Karma Couture Boutique in Morgan Hill

Make a statement with your belt– big buckles are a necessity this year.

Colors are lighter- lots of blues and grays and not too much black this year. Most shirts and jeans have a distressed look, too. The collars, sleeves, hems and other seams often show sign of “wear” when you buy them.
