Gilroy High’s Cinderella run through the Central Coast Section Division III boys soccer playoffs continued Saturday, as the Mustangs eliminated No. 1 seed Half Moon Bay, 7-6 on penalty kicks after the match had been tied 3-3 at Garcia-Elder Sports Complex.
Efren Pineda, Raymundo Gonzalez, Carlos Jimenez, Alejandro Flores, Miguel Orozco, Andres Jimenez and Sean Kaufman converted penalty kicks for the Mustangs, who got two goals from Andres Jimenez and one goal from Pineda before the shootout.
Kaufman, Javier Alejo and David Valencia had assists for Gilroy. The ninth-seeded Mustangs (11-9-2) will meet fifth-seeded Sacred Heart Prep (17-2-3) in the semifinals Wednesday. The site and time are yet to be announced by the CCS.
Half Moon Bay ended the season 15-4-2 overall.
