Saint Louise Regional Hospital

Saint Louise Regional Hospital, located at 9300 No Name Uno Road in Gilroy is now offering women a minimally invasive procedure if a breast biopsy is required. The new method utilizes ultrasound or stereotactic x-ray imaging along with a probe that is inserted through a small incision in the patient’s skin.

There are benefits to patients who opt for this style of minimally invasive surgery: less pain, less time in the operating room and it only requires local anesthesia. According to Hospital Spokeswoman Jasmine Nguyen, the procedure usually takes less than 15 minutes. Women should consult their physicians to discuss whether this new procedure is the best option for them.

The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2013, almost 40,000 women will die from breast cancer.
