Christopher High’s boys basketball team saw its season end in heartbreaking fashion Thursday night, suffering a 54-53 loss at Monterey in the second round of the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs.

Andrew Foster converted a three-point play with about 20 seconds left to give the Cougars (11-15) a 53-52 lead, but the Toreadores (12-13) won the game on a layup with about three seconds remaining.

“It certainly is hard to lose that way, but we played well enough in the second half to win the game,” Christopher coach Kaden Bahner said.

Foster scored 13 points for Christopher, which got 12 points from Wyatt Rocheleau, eight points from Shane Suttles, five points from Evan Shapiro and four points from A.J. Ellis.

“I’m very proud of our kids,” Bahner said.
