U.S. 101 south of Gilroy near Betabel Road was backed up for several miles shortly before 2 p.m. today, Tuesday in both directions due to a car fire and vegetation fire, Calfire Battalion Chief Jim Crawford confirmed.
The quarter acre brush fire was started by the car fire according to Crawford. He said the fire has been contained and there are no injuries to report. Three engines from Calfire and the South Santa Clara County Fire District responded to the scene.
Multiple CHP officers responded to the incident according to CHP Officer Herb Kellogg. He said officers are still investigating why the vehicle, a Chevy truck, caught fire.
