The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has identified Vincent Lopez as the man killed in a car crash late Thursday night on the 2600 block of Hecker Pass in Gilroy.
According to Gilroy Police Sgt. Pedro Espinoza, officers from GPD responded to the accident at 10:49 p.m. and found Lopez, a 44-year-old Watsonville resident, unresponsive and suffering from major trauma after his black compact car had collided with a tree.Â
Emergency medical personnel arrived and despite their attempt to aid Lopez, he died at the scene.
Members of GPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) have assumed the investigation. According to Sgt. Espinoza, MAIT continued working through the night to gather any evidence that could help determine the contributing factors in the crash.
The incident is still an active investigation, Sgt. Espinoza said.
