Alicia Ornelas-Stevens

A Gavilan College MESA student earned the MESA Undergraduate Scholarship from the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Alicia Ornelas-Stevens was one of 12 MESA community college students to win a $1,000 award. Alicia will be transferring to UC Davis in the fall 2013 semester. She is majoring in computer science.

The scholarship competition was open to MESA students from 26 community colleges in the PG&E service area as part of the company’s effort to invest in the education of the communities it serves. Applicants were judged on academic merit, financial need and leadership qualities. All the students are full-time engineering or computer science majors with at least a 3.0 GPA.

MESA is one of the largest programs in the state to support educationally disadvantaged students so they can graduate from college with science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) degrees. MESA provides academic support and enrichment to more than 20,000 K-12 students and more than 7,800 community college students each year. For more information visit, mesa.ucop.edu.
