Christopher High School junior Jacob Garcia, in conjunction with the student-led Link Crew club, will be hosting a “Heart to Heart” anti-bullying campaign event this Thursday on campus during lunch at 12:19 p.m.
Inspired by the recent sexual battery and cyberbullying of Saratoga teen Audrie Pott, who was tormented by the incident and hung herself Sept. 10, organizers will ask students and staff members to paint their hands and leave a hand print on a large canvas to show their solidarity in helping to stop bullying and its negative effects. One of the three accused teen boys in the case includes a CHS male student.
“The purpose of this project is to bring awareness to students, staff and the community as a whole,” said Garcia, whose fellow classmate was arrested two weeks ago for his suspected part in the alleged assault and harassment of 15-year-old Pott.
Link Crew, a club of senior and junior students who help mentor incoming freshmen and help them “find and pursue the path of success” at CHS, have an anti-bullying event each year, “but this year we have suffered too many losses due to bullying,” said Garcia.
The event will also feature a pair of student speakers and teachers who will “share their struggle and how they pushed through their tribulations,” Garcia said.
