Gilroy Police Department arrested a local transient Monday morning after he allegedly cut off part of another transient’s right ring finger with a ninja samurai sword.

Lee Brazwell Jr., 52, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault after allegedly attacking a 40-year-old man at 5920 Travel Park Circle. The victim said he was minding his own business about 5:30 a.m. when Brazwell started calling him names and throwing bottles at him, Detective Sgt. Noel Provost said. The victim said he started defending himself when Brazwell cut his finger and took off running, he said.

Brazwell contended that there was no assault at all and that he was talking with a friend when the victim approached him on his bicycle and started causing problems.

Police arrested Brazwell at 11:42 a.m. after finding him at a camp site near the railroad tracks behind Motel 6, 6110 Monterey Road, Provost said. He indicated that police believe he had been staying there. Police have not found any swords at this point.
