GILROY – Gilroy High’s girls basketball team cruised in its final game of the season Friday night in Salinas, beating Notre Dame 52-30.

Nine different Mustangs scored, as Chelsea Hill led the way with 10 points and eight rebounds. Forwards Lindsey Foster and Ashlee Williams both had eight to go with six and 10 rebounds, respectively, while Demornay Granados had six points and nine rebounds.

“The first quarter was a bit close and then I believe we just busted out in the second quarter,” Gilroy coach Susan Shapiro said.

Ahead 14-10 after the first quarter, Gilroy’s defense was stellar in the second period, holding the Spirits to just one point to take a 29-11 lead into halftime.

The Mustangs continued to distance themselves from Notre dame in the third quarter to take a 40-17 advantage into the fourth.

Jennifer Rose and Sovi Nou both scored five for Gilroy, Lauren Rhodes and Kristen Costa each had four and Kristy Pineda had one basket.

The result was the 16th victory of the season for the Mustangs (16-10), who finished third in the Tri-County Athletic League with an 8-4 record. Notre Dame wrapped up the season at 6-19, 3-9.

Gilroy will find out what team, where and when it will be playing in next week’s Central Coast Section playoffs on Sunday.

Shapiro said she believes her team will receive as high as a six seed.
